As regular readers of this blog (Hi Mum) will know - we review kids' menus. We've been doing it for just over a year, and in that time we've reviewed around 20 different restaurants,
Today though we have a problem. We sat down for dinner and didn't want to eat from the kids' menu. Which gives us a bit of a dilemma. Can we review a kids' menu - if we chose not to eat from it?
Here's what the kids' menu at Gazette looks like:
Let's be honest - it's hardly the most exciting kids' menu ever is it? It's a real shame, because the rest of the menu sounded delicious! So Dad said it was okay if we ordered from the grown-ups menu instead.
We ordered a Caeser Salad, French meats, olives, and chips. As it was a Wednesday we got some free 'French Tapas' of pate and salmon as well. It was all delicious,
If you had the choice between this food and 'Smiley chicken and mash' what would you chose?
Yes, some kids want plain pasta, but please don't restrict your kids menus to this. If you're a nice French restaurant serving delicious French food then why not offer some of it to kids?
Because we'll say it again - everything we had to eat at Gazette was delicious...
... even desert.
Here was a desert which absolutely should be part of the kids menu! Madeleines freshly cooked, served straight from the oven with a jug of melted chocolate. PERFECT! One of the best deserts we've had... ANYWHERE!
Which brings us to the score.
This is really tough. We didn't actually order from the kids' menu - so how can we review it? On the other hand the kids' menu was so plain in comparison to the rest of the menu we didn't want to eat any of it. So here's what we're going to - we're using our old friend the asterisk, to say exactly that; We chose not to eat from the kids menu because we thought it was a bit boring.
We will go back to Gazette - but we probably won't be choosing from the kids' menu.
